Unconscious Bias Demystified

A highly interactive course that aims to provide participants with mid-level understanding of DEI

Unconscious bias training is common but not delivered with the depth and level of engagement you will experience in this course!

Firstly, you will be guided through the course by a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) specialist. So, you can feel confident about receiving the right guidance and signposting on any aspects you feel stuck on.

Secondly, you will be enabled to engage and interact with your cohort through a Community Box, which makes our online courses a shared experience rather than merely an individual journey (but with the flexibility of online courses.) After all, learning is more meaningful when we can learn from one another!

Thirdly, our course brings the subject of unconscious bias to life in a way that truly DEMYSTIFIES the topic! You will learn how our minds trick us into seeing things differently from how they are and how to ‘slow down your thinking’ to eliminate bias from your decision-making.

We will introduce you to a powerful concept of Socialised or Normalised Bias coined by Dumi to go beyond thinking of it as merely unconscious bias. Thereby placing more responsibility on all of us for the uninclusive conduct we have made a norm in our workplaces and communities.

By completing the course, you will boost your own awareness and confidence in how to eliminate unwanted and unfair conduct from your interactions with others and to actively become consciously inclusive.

Dumi Senda or Coach Dumi is the Founder and CEO of Titese. Known as “The Rags to Impact Coach”, Dumi is widely recognised for his inspirational journey of going from a life of low prospects in his home country Zimbabwe, working as a laborer for 10 years in the UK, to becoming an Oxford University graduate and award-winning Global Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) expert. He’s currently the Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging Portfolio Lead for BBC England with a remit transcending 6 super regions of over 3000 staff and 45+ million audiences across TV, radio and online platforms.

Dumi was the first-ever winner of the “Future of Leadership” DEI Award in South Africa, a global award which recognises individuals who’ve made a significant contribution towards the development of people and organisations in their sector. He’s also been invited to the UK Prime Minister’s official residence, 10 Downing Street. in recognition of his impact in transforming workplaces through empowering underrepresented employee groups to progress and prosper.

He has extensive experience in delivering high-impact DEI projects, which range from Diagnostics, Strategy Development & Implementation, to Coaching and Training. He’s highly adept at working across multiple sectors and cultural divides and has a special ability to create a safe space that brings people along on a journey of shared DEI ownership, including broaching uncomfortable conversations.

Dumi’s lived experience has fuelled his passion to empower others who may doubt their own potential to succeed against the odds. Realising that his passion for equality alone would not take him far, he took himself back to university at the age of 33 and studied with people 10 years younger than him. Despite becoming a new father at the beginning of his academic journey, Dumi worked hard, graduated top of his department, and received two “Dean’s Special Awards” from Leeds Beckett University before being accepted into Oxford for MSc studies.

The experience cultivated his commitment to empower others through sharing his story and his personal mantra “Never let your background keep you in the background”.

It helped me recognize my own biases

"I recently completed the Unconscious Bias online course, and it was eye-opening. The course was well-structured, and the 'quest format' was extremely engaging. It provided deep insights into how unconscious bias affects our daily lives. Even online, you don't feel like you're doing the course with your computer but with a real professional, just through a screen rather than in a physical space. I highly recommend the course to anyone looking to foster a more inclusive and equitable workplace."
